Important Update: Termination of the de minimis Exemption ($800) for Imports into the U.S.
According to Executive Order 14324 (EO 14324) “Suspending Duty-Free De Minimis Treatment for All Countries,” signed by President Donald Trump on July 30, 2025, and published in the Federal Register on August 5, 2025, the de minimis exemption for imports valued up to $800 into the United States has been revoked.
What is changing?
- Elimination of the duty-free threshold: From now on, all international shipments, regardless of value, may be subject to customs duties, taxes, and additional inspections.
- All food products are prohibited for shipping.
- The changes apply to all countries of origin and all shipping methods (postal parcels, express delivery, courier services).
- During a transition period, U.S. Customs may apply flat fees for small parcels; later, ad valorem duty rates (percentage of declared value) will be enforced.
Due to these changes, delivery delays are possible because of additional customs checks and procedures. We strongly recommend factoring in the new regulations when planning international shipments to the U.S. and staying updated through official sources.
